The customs strengthened supervision over the labeling of imported pre-packaged food

Food label is a carrier that transmits product information to consumers. Doing a good job in pre-packaged food label management is not only an effective means to safeguard the rights and interests of consumers and ensure the healthy development of the industry, but also the need to realize the scientific management of food safety. The label of prepackaged food imported from general trade must indicate the name of food, ingredient list, specification and net content, production date and shelf life, storage conditions, origin, name, address and contact information of domestic agents, and nutrition ingredients according to the situation.

Starting from October 1, 2019, China will cancel the requirement of filing labels for imported pre-packaged food for the first time. The importer shall be responsible for verifying whether the Chinese label of its imported prepackaged food conforms to relevant laws, administrative regulations and national food safety standards. Cancel filing ≠ cancel supervision, and the announcement identifies the responsible subject of label audit, strengthens pre-event and post-event supervision, and importers and exporters improve their awareness and management level of abiding by the law, and carry out independent audit in compliance. If the Chinese label is not up to standard, the customs shall not import.

If the imported pre-packaged food is selected for on-site inspection or laboratory inspection, the importer shall submit its qualified certification materials, original and translated labels of the imported pre-packaged food, Chinese label samples and other certification materials to the customs officers. If there is an award, certificate to provide the relevant proof materials; Where the nutrient content is marked, certification materials of conformity shall be provided; Provide test report if gm is claimed in the label; Organic food provides organic product certification. If it is suspected of violating relevant provisions, it shall be verified and, once confirmed, dealt with according to law.
